Who It's For

Hunters who need to wade through standing water, push through briars, and keep moving without choosing between wet feet and torn-up legs. The Dan's Five Star Chap with Frogger Boot is built for coon hunters, duck hunters, and anyone working marshes, creek crossings, and flooded timber where the cover doesn't stop just because the water starts.

What Are Froglegs?

Froglegs are Dan's solution to hip-deep conditions. Each pair starts with a briarproof outer chap lined with water-repellent nylon that runs all the way down to the lower ankle. Dan's team then sews and seals that chap directly to the boot of your choice, creating a waterproof hip wader that also sheds briars and brush from boot to belt. Wear them pulled up and attached to your belt with the adjustable straps, or fold them down and snap them at the knee when conditions allow.

How It's Built

Dan's Five Star Chap

  • Tightly woven 420 denier nylon briarproof shell — the same material as Dan's Rugged Wear clothing line
  • Water-repellent nylon lining extends to the lower ankle
  • Lightweight and flexible without sacrificing briar resistance
  • Brown

Dan's Frogger Boot

  • Chemically resistant rubber construction
  • Extra thick 2 mil. overlay with additional rubber underlays in high-puncture areas
  • Gel-Comfort insole
  • Xtreme Traction tread — aggressive in mud, rocks, and snow
  • 16" boot height, 100% waterproof
  • Steel shank in outsole
  • Comfort range: -20°F to 70°F
  • Weight: 5.6 lbs.

Why It's Worth It

  • Hip-Deep Waterproof: The sewn-and-sealed chap-to-boot construction keeps water out from boot sole to belt.
  • Briarproof From Boot to Belt: Water-repellent nylon lining runs through to the lower ankle, so briars and sharp sticks don't find a gap at the boot top.
  • Serious Boot Construction: Chemically resistant rubber, 2 mil. overlay, steel shank, and aggressive tread handle the worst terrain you can put them through (one reviewer wore his for a week on Arctic tundra).
  • Versatile Carry: Attach to your belt for full hip protection or fold down and snap at the knee when you're out of the water.
  • Gel-Comfort Insole: Comfortable enough to wear for a full night of hunting or a week of trekking.
  • Hand-Sewn in the USA: Crafted in Ohio for superior quality and field-readiness.

Sizing Guide

  • Chap thigh: Measure around the largest part of your thigh over your jeans and add 2–3 inches. Order 2–3 inches shorter than your normal inseam; 3 inches shorter is recommended. If between sizes, most buyers choose the shorter length.
  • Boot size: Dan's Frogger Boots size similarly to Muck Boots. If you're unsure of your size, trying on a pair of Mucks at a local store is a reliable guide. Size up if you plan to wear heavy socks. Boot sizes 6–15 available.

    Boots w/chaps

These boots are wonderfully made. Secure feeling. Chaps seem better quality than last time we purchased.

No others come close in comparison

I’ve owned quite a few pairs of hip waders, and nothing compares to these. I live in Maryland and spend a lot of time in the marshes of the Eastern shore, chasing sika deer. This is a tough environment, walking through the phragmites, thigh deep water, mud, and briar patches. My hip waders usually last me a season before they develop holes, if I’m lucky. Not to mention they are uncomfortable and never seem to fit how you want them to. These frog legs are the answer. I used them for the first time the other day and they are the best thing since sliced bread. Having an actual rubber boot (I got the dans frogger boot) is way comfier than any boot I’ve ever had from other hip waders. My mile walk in was a breeze. If you’ve ever owned a pair of much boots the froggers fit very similar to those. They are tough, don’t have to worry about them getting tore up on anything. Only gripe I can think of is they are loud when they rub together. However, if you’re walking through water, you know walking in quietly isn’t really an option, and once I got to my stand, I folded them down and buttoned them in, and solved that issue. If you’re looking for quality hip waders, look no further. Spend the extra money, Buy once, cry once. Have a pair that’ll last you years.
